In the UAE, the combination of heat, dust, and humidity creates challenging conditions for wide-format printers. A printhead clog or ink-feed problem can stop production entirely — which is why regular maintenance is as important as the initial machine purchase.
Daily Maintenance Checklist
- Run the daily auto-clean cycle before printing
- Check ink levels and refill before running long jobs
- Inspect the capping station and wiper blade for ink buildup
- Wipe down the platen and media path to remove dust
- Print a nozzle-check pattern and confirm all channels are firing
Weekly and Monthly Tasks
Every week, clean the encoder strip with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol. Monthly, inspect the dampers for air bubbles or discolouration and replace if needed. Flush the ink lines every 3–6 months depending on usage intensity.
The Most Common Print Quality Problems
Banding (horizontal lines in the print) is almost always caused by clogged or misfiring nozzles. Run a nozzle check, then a power-clean cycle. If banding persists after 2–3 cleans, the printhead may need soaking or replacement.
Colour shift is often caused by incorrect ICC profiles, old ink, or media that does not match the profile in use. Always use up-to-date, manufacturer-matched profiles.
