Direct-to-film (DTF) printing is one of the fastest-growing garment decoration techniques in the UAE. It produces a full-colour, stretchable heat-transfer that can be applied to almost any fabric — including polyester, nylon, and blended materials that DTG printing cannot handle well.
How DTF Works
A design is printed directly onto a clear PET film using water-based CMYK and white inks. While the ink is still wet, a hot-melt adhesive powder is applied and the film is cured in an oven. The finished transfer is then heat-pressed onto the garment at 150–160°C for 10–15 seconds.
The result is a vivid, flexible print that adheres to virtually any textile surface.
DTF vs DTG vs Screen Printing
DTF works on all fabrics including polyester and nylon. DTG works best on 100% cotton. Screen printing is cost-effective only for large runs of identical designs. DTF transfers can also be pre-made in bulk and stored, allowing fast fulfilment of custom orders.
